CEO Peter Baker was invited to speak at this week’s 2026 i3Net (Illawarra Innovative Industry Network) Industry Breakfast, joining leaders from across business, government and resources sectors to discuss the region’s future.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to highlight GM3’s strategic direction and what lies ahead for our operations and mining in the region.

Peter spoke to his key leadership priorities, including putting safety first, aligning the business through to the coalface, retaining a skilled industrial workforce in the Illawarra, and maintaining critical coking coal supply to BlueScope and the broader steelmaking industry. He also highlighted the essential role metallurgical coal will play during this important period of energy transition.

Peter also highlighted the ongoing importance of Dendrobium Mine to the region, including its key role in supplying Wongawilli Seam coal to the Port Kembla Steelworks. He outlined the next stage of mining, including a proposed application to Government for an extension of extraction time in Area 3C, which would support continued production through to 2034.

A key theme of the session was collaboration. Peter reinforced GM3’s continued commitment to working closely with community, government and industry to support local outcomes and ensure long-term prosperity in the Illawarra region.

GM3 is a proud member and sponsor of i3Net, reflecting our ongoing commitment to being an active and constructive contributor to the region’s future. We would like to thank i3Net for hosting another excellent event, and for continuing to provide a valuable network for sharing ideas and strengthening connections across the Illawarra business community.
